William B. Strang Jr. founded Overland Park during the year 1905. Strang envisioned communities of subdivisions that will be self-sustaining and "park-like". Among these was Overland Park, a successful experiment which saw ongoing growth up to its incorporation as a city in 1960. Overland Park boomed throughout the 1980s as the number of residents and companies skyrocketed. By the end of that decade, the population was more than 100,000 people.
